Background

The Hebat group is one of the group participating in St Joseph’s Institution International in Singapore.

ABOUT CHALLENGE WEEK

As part of the school’s SMILES value programme, students in grade 11 are requried to go to a country of their choice anywhere is South East and South Asia to do community and service and any activities satisfying the IB Diploma’s Creativity Action Service programme. The point of challenge week is that the students are planning, executioning and doing everything by themselves with minimal help from parents and under the supervision of teachers of SJI International. Challenge Week will force students especially The Hebats out of our comfort zone.

FORMATION OF THE HEBAT

The Hebat was established a week before we are actually allowed to for our groups. Initially there were 5 of us in the group. Shweta and Kat decided to sms the 5 of us and declare that we are in the same group. We were firstly known simply as group 5 and Mr Nurney was chosen to be our teacher supervisor. As the group started the prelimenary proposal, we see the need of adding one more guy into the group and Vinay was invited to join the group. On the 20th of May 2011, we are formally known as the Hebat and on the 23th of May 2011 we launched our logo with The Challenger as our mascot.

THE STORY BEHIND OUR NAME

Our group consist of 3 native Bahasa Indonesia/Melayu native speaker, an Indonesian ab initio student and a half Indonesian member which makes most of us think of an Indonesian/Melayu name for the group. HEBAT means awesome and as our aim is to be the most awesome group we think that Hebat is an appropriate name for the group. We are the Hebats! and we are the awesome people

OUR MOTTO

Challenge is our middle name.

Our motto implies that we are in it to challenge ourselves and not in it for vacational purposes.

OUR AIM

Our aim is to be the most awesome challenge week group out of all 24 groups in the year group. Awesome in the activities we do, awesome in the preperations, awesome in the time management and being awesome in as many ways as possible. With such an awesome composition of members and supervisors, we are confident that we will be the most awesome group of all.

We aim that in whatever we do, we will challenge ourselves as this is the main reason as to why we’re doing the challenge week.
